What Does Acupuncture Feel Like?

Many first-time patients are concerned that acupuncture needles will feel like hypodermic injections at the doctor’s office. They do not! Acupuncture uses hair-thin, flexible needles that you will hardly feel when I insert them. If, I gently stimulate the needles, you may not notice anything but depending on your condition, the needles may, on occasion produce a unique sensation that Oriental medicine calls de qi which is an excitation of the vital energy. This means something is happening and while patients often describe it as a heavy pressure, spreading or traveling feeling, they're also pleased to know it's working. Sometimes, there's an "electrical" sensation moving down the meridian pathways, though this is less common. Most patients find these acupuncture sensations deeply satisfying and leave the treatment feeling relaxed both mentally and physically.

Acupuncture treatment creates deep relaxation
in both mind, body and spirit.

How Many Treatments Will I Need?

The benefits of acupuncture are cumulative, so more then one treatment is necessary. For acute conditions you can expect to have 15 to 30 treatments, although you will usually begin to feel relief after just a few first treatments. I keep the price affordable so you can come more frequently if needed. Chronic conditions may take longer to respond, depending on the type, severity, and duration of the condition. Preventative treatments and treatments for general well-being may also be scheduled on an as-needed basis. Keep in mind, I'm here to help and want you to feel your best.

What is Community Acupuncture?

Community acupuncture is practiced in a group setting where multiple people receive treatments at the same time, in the same room.  Patients are escorted to lounging chairs in a quiet and dimly lit room with soft music for relaxation. So you lay back, needles are inserted, you close your eyes and let the music take you away while acupuncture does its job. Other patients are either guided to, or request, a private room with a table. By treating multiple patients in this type of setting, the cost of acupuncture is significantly reduced allowing patients to come in more frequently and consistently. In fact, this is the most common way acupuncture is practiced in China.  Many patients tell me that they not only feel better after each treatment but enjoy having that time-out, once a week place to go where they relax and feel good the minute they enter the room.  Thank you!

What do Treatments Cost?

Treatments cost $25 with an additional $15 initial consultation fee (first visit only).
